stop animal abuse

I think that not many people would care, but have you ever seen those old ladies who go for a walk, with a couple of leashes in one hand and a cane in the other? I don't mean a walking stick, I mean a hitting stick.

I have. If I'm unlucky(and I usually am), I see the not-so-friendly dog-whipping auntie when I look out onto the street in the morning. I know someone else who hits her cats. Apparently, she's an old person too. When she's happy, she's a nice old cat-loving lady, but when she's angry, screaming at her won't get her to stop caning her loves. Sobbing loudly won't, either. Only after she's satisfied and feeling like a really good discipline master, will she console you. With what? With a very reassuring "the cats won't die lah". So, how would you feel?

I really hate seeing dogs, cats or whatever animal being hit, especially with a cane you'd see being used on misbehaving kids.. human of course.

Children understand when you punish them, because we are, after all speaking the same language as the child being punished. But cats and dogs don't. If you have a cat, you'd know how it feels like when they shred your furniture in the process of sharpening their nails, or when they spray urine to mark their territory.

A couple of stuff I found out about punishing your cats from http://www.pets.ca/:

The number one rule of cat punishment or discipline is;

You can only punish a cat if you catch it in the act.

Let's say you want to punish your cat for scratching furniture. You come home and find your new couch scratched up. It's too late to punish your cat and punishment is COMPLETELY ineffective because the cat doesn't know why it's being punished. Putting a cats nose in its urine is a sure way to get the cat to think that YOU are the bad one. Using any means of punishment after the fact, will only confuse the cat and might well damage the relationship you have with it.

Rule two of cat punishment or discipline is;
Never hit your cat (or dog for that matter)

Cats do not respond well to hitting and doing so can damage the bond between you and your cat. First off, hitting a cat can hurt a cat and it may well bite you back in self defense if you attempt to hit it. Very quickly, the cat may learn to fear you. It is an old school approach that is outdated because better methods are available.

For ways to deal with the problems, you could click here.

I like watching Miami Animal Police on Animal Planet where agents arrest animal-abusers. I get really worked up when those idiots try to defend themselves by saying "but it's only a cat", and seeing how thin, weak and scared the abused animals are just makes you want to weep. I haven't seen any episodes where the rescued animals die, so at the end of the programme, I'm usually feeling really good.

I want to be an animal activist.
I am against animal abuse.
I am against animal testing(support The Body Shop!).
I am against the use of fur in clothes.
Oh, I am against a lot of stuff.

Okay now I feel like going vegetarian. I think I want to. Hmm.. I'll try.

Okay bye.
