i hope it will be worth what i give up

Hey!

It's the 13th! And this means that I've gone 11th months of boycotting the meat industry now. It doesn't feel that long, surprisingly, and I hate that. I don't feel fulfilled, you know? I should be thrilled that I've managed to go 11 months (almost a year!), but I'm not. Not as thrilled as I think I should be at least. :(

Anyway, today's also TWLOHA day and on this day, people write the word Love on their arms in support of the organization. Nooranah told me about it. Go look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about. So. It sounded cool, and I wrote on my forearm last night in permanent marker. But then I didn't like what I'd done, so I tried to get it off. Please note that emphasis is on the word Tried here. Do you know how difficult getting permanent marker off you skin is?!? I washed with soap first and some of it came off, but the word love was still clearly there. Then I used nail polish remover and it was cold and sort of tingled and stung so I ran to bathroom to wash that off. A lot of the ink was still there though, so I resorted to scrubbing myself with those Body Shop bath gloves that leave your skin feeling raw if you're too harsh with them. Needless to say, I ended up going to bed with a red, hurting arm. Pretty ironic, considering the fact that this organization helps people who are depressed, suicidal, self-mutilators.. It's supposed to help these people realise that self-induced pain isn't the way out. And while trying to support the whole cause, I wound up in self-induced pain myself.

I'm home alone now. My mom and grandma just left the house and my grandpa's gone out to teach. I was thinking of spending my day doing art and just listening to music. Sounds really appealing, especially after the busy, busy week I've had. And it's raining too! I like rain when it's like this; when you're in the comfort of your own home and it's all cool and comfy and quiet because no one's out there and all you hear is the rain hitting the ground and the occasional whirr of a passing vehicle's engine. There's a tree outside my window. A yellow flame tree, I think? The one with those delicate yellow flowers and fern-like leaves. There aren't any flowers this time of year, but it's cute when the raindrops land on the leaves. The tiny leaves dip and then bounce back up and quiver, like a dance! And sometimes you see birds perched in the branches in an attempt to get out of the rain. I like watching these birds, but they learn quickly that this isn't the right tree to seek shelter in and so they fly off to the next one, which is just an older-looking yellow flame. But that one's really thick and big and has dark green leaves compared to my tree (haha) which is all light green and kinda sparse and is pretty small. Personally I think that my tree looks more welcoming and safe but it's a matter of opinion I guess. Hahaha.

Rain is pretty. In my old Spottiswoode Park Rd home in Tanjong Pagar, I used to watch the rain fall from our 21st story 'balcony' window. When the rain was heavy enough, you could see how big the individual raindrops were and how quickly they fell, which was pretty in itself. But the best part was definitely that because we were so high up, you could look down at the rain falling downwards and it looked a lot like snow! There was a really green field right in front of our flat and the falling rain looked sowhite against it. Plus, watching rain from above is totally different from watching it come down to you. So amazing <3
